The Salal series consists of well drained soils that formed in alluvium under grasses on flood plains at elevations from 400 feet to
500 feet. Slopes are 0 to 2%. The annual precipitation is 70 to 80 inches. The frost-free season is about 150 days.

Use and Management: Primary uses of this soil are for row crops and pastures. Pasture forage yields are 5.0 tons/acre/year with good management. Douglas-fir, Western Red Cedar, Red Alder, and Bigleaf Maple are important tree species on all soil slope classes.This soil has severe limitations due to plant competition. The Renton soil has moderate recreational and moderate to severe engineering limitations due to its flooding potential and potential high water table.
