The Neilton series consists of excessively drained soils. These undulating and rolling soils formed conifers on terraces in stratified, very gravelly glacial outwash deposits at elevations ranging from about sea level to 500 feet. The annual precipitation is 35 to 55 inches. The frost-free season is 145 to 210 days.

Available Water Holding Capacity: Low

Runoff Potential: Slow to medium

Erosion and Slippage Hazard: Slight to moderate

Use and Management: Primary uses of these soils are for timber and urban development. Pasture forage yields are 1.5 tons/acre/year with good management. Production on this soil may be limited in the Summer by low moisture availability. Douglas-fir, Western Hemlock, Red Alder, and Bigleaf Maple are important tree species on all soil slope classes. There are slight limitations on equipment use for site preparation and timber harvest. This soil has moderate to severe limitations on recreational uses because of its gravel content. It has slight to severe limitations on engineering uses, with the severe limitations due to the excessively high permeability, high gravel content, or degree of slope.
