Winter 2009 Volunteer Events
The King Conservation District invites you to participate in a variety of natural resource conservation projects where you will learn about restoring streams and wetlands, using native plants to restore native plant communities and engineering techniques to enhance fish and wildlife habitat. Seeds, Roots & Shoots
Native Plant Nursery:Native plants grown from locally collected seed are the corner stone of conservation and ecological restoration. Learn about growing native plants for stream and wetland restoration projects while helping to perform critical nursery tasks. Activities include starting plants from seed, divisions, and transplants, or help maintain nursery stock by watering and weeding. Events will occur at the King Conservation District Nursery facility in Renton from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Nurturing Nature
Stream and Wetland Enhancement:The KCD stream and wetland restoration program has many successful restoration projects that require native plant installation and ongoing maintenance. Sample a variety of restoration projects while replanting and removing invasive species. Project locations throughout King County, so please contact us for details. You can also check our website for more up to date information on site locations www.kingcd.org. Events will occur at project locations yet to be determined from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Urban Forest Restoration
Longfellow Creek Legacy Trail, West Seattle:Join KCD and the Green Seattle Partnership to help
restore habitat on Longfellow creek in West Seattle. Longfellow creek is one of only four salmon streams in Seattle. Come join our ongoing efforts to replace invasive ivy and blackberry with native trees and shrubs. Event will occur at the Brandon Street entrance of the Longfellow Legacy Trail in West Seattle from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Who Can Volunteer? Anyone! Youth under 18 years of age need to complete a youth waiver, and youth under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Can I get service learning or community service credit for school? Absolutely!
What do I need for the day of the event? Please bring water, sturdy shoes, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Don’t forget to bring raingear as we work rain or shine!
Can my youth group or company schedule a private volunteer event? Yes! Groups of 10 or more can request a private event on weekdays or weekends. Please contact Jacobus Saperstein, Volunteer Coordinator, to arrange a private event.
