Manure Share Program

Manure Share is simple, free and a great way to recycle valuable nutrients and organic matter. Here's some general information on how the program works.

Please note: Unless the farmer has tested the pile to determine weed seed viability and nutrient composition, we recommend that you treat it as if it is still raw organic matter. We highly recommend that you compost this material further once you bring it home. Through careful composting, you can stabilize the nutrients and kill weed seeds.

How do you get started with Manure Share?

  • Review the Manure Share fact sheet for information about the program and tips on sharing manure.

  • Make arrangements for a vehicle to pick up the manure (a regular full-sized truck will work for most people).

  • Review the current list of manure share sources to find a convenient source material that meets your needs.

  • Call the farm you have selected and arrange a time for collection of manure.

  • Compost the material at your site (consult the Compost Hotline or the District for guidance if needed).

  • Once composted, apply as needed to your garden or landscape.
