The 2011 King CD Board of Supervisors Election 30-day voting period began February 15 and concluded March 15, 2011 at 9 pm. The election for board of supervisor position #2 was one of the first of its kind in the U.S. The secure, two-step voting procedure provided voters with the convenience of voting from home, business or other computer locations. A one-day in-person voting option was also provided at the King CD office in Renton. Candidates were Douglas “Bruce” Elliott, Kent; Teri Herrera, Redmond; Eric K. Nelson, Duvall; and Preston Prudente of Sammamish.
The King CD initiated the online voting alternative following the November, 2011 revisions in rules governing conservation district elections in Washington State. Past King CD elections included voting at a small number of “in-person” voting centers spread across one of the largest conservation districts in the U.S. Using the internet is a way to involve more of the 1.1 million registered voters within the district.
