Why are you interested in becoming/continuing to serve as a member of the King Conservation District Board of Supervisor?
Being a past Board member and District Chair, I would like to be on the Board again to help continue the growth of the District as well as working with the Board members to achieve the mission and goals of the District.
I elected to not pursue a reappointment to my previous position ot the Board due to the death of my father and time limitations that it imposed upon me. I felt that I would not be able to dedicate the time needed to fulfill the position of Chair and be a full working member of the Board.
What special talents or skills do you have to offer the Board of Supervisors
Having been the Chair and board member, I bring a clear understanding of the role of the District in our community. Having also brought forth new initiatives, partnerships and looking towards the future, I believe that these all serve as special skills and talents that will add to the current board membership. Being the President of the organization Save Habitat and Diversity of Wetlands, and having learned how to partner, leverage and provide a proven record of delivery of works provides credibility that strengthens our board as a whole.
Please list groups to which you currently belong (committees, public interest, professional, business, or labor) and your role in those groups. What groups have you belonged to in the past?
President, Save Habitat and Diversity of Wetlands
Member King County Chapter, Conservation of Voters
Member, Cedar River Council
What issues concerning conservation of natural resources in King County are important to you and why?
Conservation of our natural resources is a process that is increasingly becoming more difficult to do in areas that are highly urbanizing like King County. We can only succeed by working with many people and organizations to help reach the needed outcomes. King Conservation District is uniquely positioned to work with both landowners and other partners to bring us closer to this goal. Whether the District performs the work directly, assisting a landowner, or partnering with an entity or non-profit, the District is one of the only agencies out there that has that flexibility and the approach to make this happen.
The District represents "on the ground work with common sense" and lower cost.
Bringing as many partners and players to the table to achieve our goal is important. Education, being a part of the greater whole of conservation districts in the state and serving as a leader in these efforts are all-important to me and drive to what to be involved.
Best of all is to be part of an organization that represents the above and a group of Board and staff members that do the great work that they do on a daily basis which is so respected by the landowners of King County.
I thank you for the opportunity to run for the position at the District and look forward, if elected, to be working with the Board again.
