Why are you interested in becoming/continuing to serve as a member of the King Conservation District Board of Supervisor?

I am concerned with the preservation and restoration of our natural resources.  As an advocate of the District's work, I would like to continue making a contribution to the operation of the District by providing the perspective and understanding of a rural landowner who wishes to have livestock and conserve our limited natural resources.

What special talents or skills do you have to offer the Board of Supervisors

As the current Board Chair for the District, I am well acquainted with the District's history, mission, and operation.  Also, I have a farm plan with the District and have been actively involved in implementing the BMPs in that plan for over 15 years.  I know first hand the issues and needs of the District's rural cooperators.  With an academic background in education and curriculum design as well as professional experience in personnel and project management, I can offer significant guidance and direction to the District staff on projects and operational issues.

Please list groups to which you currently belong (committees, public interest, professional, business, or labor) and your role in those groups. What groups have you belonged to in the past?

Board member and past president of the Washington State Reining Horse Association.  Western Washington Reining Horse Association.

Member of the National Reining Horse Association; have served on the National Affiliates Committee representing the Pacific Northwest.

What issues concerning conservation of natural resources in King County are important to you and why?

- Water quality and non-point pollution reduction

- Ground water contamination

- Wildlife enhancement

- Composting, recycling & solid waste reduction

- Naturescaping with native plants

As a person who spends much of my time outdoors, I value the land and wish to do my part to protect and restore its environmental integrity.

Matt Livengood
