Meet the Candidates
Max Prinsen, Renton
I am running for the board position of King Conservation District, because I am a conservationist that leads by example represents the Mission and Vision of the Conservation District.
I am Endorsed by the King County Conservation of Voters and am known throughout the community for my conservation work and ability to leverage the strengths of groups and create partnerships.
I am President of Save Habitat And Diversity of Wetland org. (SHADOW) a 92 acre conservation and education resource project in SE King County, I also serve on the WRIA 9 Committee and the Cedar River Council and Middle Green River Coalition. I am currently an Associate Supervisor at KCD as well.
Four years ago I chose to not pursue a continuation of my appointment by the State Conservation Commission which I had received 3 years prior, due to the death of my father and realizing the time commitment that was required to do the work of the district and knowing the needs of my mother.
I was the District chair for four years and on the board for six years prior to 2006. During my teenier as Chair I increased our partnerships with Landowners within King County either privately or entity owned. Working with the board and staff to create the best value in our continuing conservation efforts throughout King County and being accountable to our stakeholders was and is a key focus of mine. Working with partners and the state legislature doubling the funding available for conservation districts and changing Conservation District Law was a milestone and success during my chairmanship of KCD. Changing radically what role King Conservation District played as a leader in the state and our role with our partners was another key success during my service to KCD.
As President of SHADOW and my work with KCD, I understand the challenges that landowners have to gain the best use their land and meeting the goals of the best available science that we have today. A key role of the district is to work with our land owners to help each achieve their desired use and outcomes for their land by implementing the currently best know sciences to protect and conserve our natural resources and habitat for our future generations.
Continuing the key focuses that have increased our success in the past, it will be ever more important to increase our partnerships both with the landowner in assistance but with our entity partners to insure that we continue to deliver on our prior investments in conservation and leverage the best skills and teams to continue this work.
In these very difficult financial times, we need to get the best value for the dollars that are available to spend. This can be done by leveraging the strengths of non-profits, other groups and working collaboratively to continue the work of conservation in King County.
In CLOSING; I request your vote so that the word CONSERVATION and partnership remains the main focus of King Conservation District.
