Natural Resources Conservation Service

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), formerly the Soil Conservation Service, has been serving landowners since the Dust Bowl days of the 1930s. Originally formed to solve soil erosion problems, the NRCS has expanded its services to include range, forest management, wildlife, urban conservation and wetland issues. The NRCS is a unique federal agency in that it works directly with private landowners.

The Renton Field Office primarily provides engineering services for water control problems to municipalities and landowners. It also actively works with King County dairy farmers to solve their manure storage and disposal problems and ensure that their operations have minimal impacts on the natural resources. The Renton Field Office is involved with a number of restoration projects on degraded urban streams in King and Pierce County. It also supports the efforts of the King Conservation District, providing engineering, natural resources and agricultural expertise to District personnel. The NRCS also develops the standards used by District personnel to create and implement natural resource management projects and farm plans.
